Albite, 200-mesh Powder

Albite, 200-mesh Powder

We offer 200-mesh Albite, which is typically white to greyish-white in colour. Albite exhibits a melting range of 1120~1250°C. Within this interval, it progressively softens and transforms into a glassy phase upon fusion. The molten liquid phase generated from feldspar fills the voids within the ceramic body, boosting bulk density and enhancing mechanical strength, optical performance and dielectric properties of finished ware. Potassium feldspar, by contrast, forms a high-viscosity melt when fused; its viscosity declines gradually with rising temperature. This characteristic supports reliable firing control and minimises deformation risks during ceramic manufacturing.

The theoretical oxide composition of Albite is: SiO₂ 68.8%, Al₂O₃ 19.4%, Na₂O 11.8%. Naturally occurring pure albite is uncommon and normally incorporates minor anorthite (An) molecules. Material with anorthite content below 10% is still classified as albite.

Albite melts at a lower temperature than potassium feldspar. The liquid phase it produces has low viscosity alongside a narrow melting range, and its viscosity falls rapidly as temperature increases. For this reason, albite used in body formulations can lead to ware deformation. Nevertheless, albite demonstrates the fastest dissolution rate and maximum solubility for quartz, clay and mullite at elevated temperatures, making it well-suited for glaze formulations.
